La Fortezza Estense di Monte Alfonso

Su una prominente collina posta ad Ovest di Castelnuovo, si trova una fortezza fatta costruire nel 1579 dal duca Alfonso II d'Este, su progetto di Marco Antonio Pasi, e per la quale i lavori durarono fino al 1585.
Purtroppo le mura della fortezza stanno progressivamente deteriorandosi a causa dell'azione del tempo e della vegetazione rampicante che ormai le ricopre interamente.

At few kilometres from the town of Castelnuovo, after a short ascent, we reach the Fortress of Monte Alfonso. In this place, dominating the town and the valley, Alfonso II d'Este built, between 1579 and 1585, a powerful fortress provided with big pieces of artillery.
Now only a few relics remain of what were once the walls, the lodgings the tower and the dungeons of the structure.
